The current narrative in food is that plants are the healthiest thing we can eat.
There’s been an explosion of plant-based substitutions for animal foods and the common assumption is that these substitutions are the better option.
But plants contain poisons and toxic compounds that damage the body in varying ways.
The concentration of toxins varies depending on the type and part of the plant, but these defense compounds are a fact of botanical science. Plants make toxic compounds to deter animals, insects, and us from eating them by making us sick and causing damage to our cells and DNA, dysregulating hormones, and affecting the normal functioning of systems in our bodies.
